QUESTIONS FREQUENT

LEAVE US A MESSAGE →
What is 3D scanning and how does it work? −
3D scanning is the process by which the shape and geometry of a real object is captured and transformed into a 3D digital model. At Capib.ro, we use advanced technologies that collect millions of measurement points (point cloud), transformed into accurate 3D models - ready for design, analysis, reverse engineering or 3D printing. For most projects, scanning is combined with reverse engineering to deliver a production-ready CAD file (STEP/IGES).
What types of objects can be 3D scanned? +
We can scan a wide range of objects - from small mechanical parts to larger industrial components, assemblies and even damaged or worn parts. Our process is optimized for complex geometries and fine detail, providing highly accurate digital models. We also scan existing parts for reverse engineering when technical drawings are not available.
How accurate is the 3D scan offered? +
Our 3D scanning services offer high accuracy, typically less than one millimeter, depending on the size and surface of the object. Accuracy is optimized according to project requirements for reliable results in engineering or manufacturing. If you have critical tolerances, our team recommends the best approach before scanning begins.
In which formats do you deliver 3D files? +
We deliver files in industry-standard formats such as STL, OBJ, PLY, STEP or IGES, depending on your needs. Whether you need a mesh model for 3D printing or an editable CAD file for engineering, manufacturing or milling, the files are ready to use. STEP/IGES files are available as an additional option when reverse engineering is included.
Can you scan damaged or worn parts? +
Yes, we can scan damaged or worn parts and digitally reconstruct their original geometry. This is very useful for restoration, production of spare parts or design optimization - especially when the original plans no longer exist. We combine scanning with reverse engineering to deliver a production-ready file that you can print or mill directly.
How long does a 3D scanning project take? +
The duration depends on the size and complexity of the object. Mesh-only scans are delivered from 48 hours for small and simple parts. Scanning + reverse engineering at STEP/IGES takes from 48 hours to 5 working days for more complex projects, including data processing and optimization.
Do you also offer reverse engineering services after scanning? +
Yes, we can transform scanned data into fully editable CAD models (STEP/IGES) using Onshape or SolidWorks. So you can modify, enhance or produce the scanned object accurately. For most projects, we recommend combining scanning with reverse engineering for production-ready results.
Can reflective or transparent objects be scanned? +
Yes, but these surfaces sometimes require special treatment, such as applying a temporary matte spray for proper data capture. Please send parts clean and dry - we return them in their original condition after scanning. Interior cavities that are not in line of sight may be impossible to scan without disassembly.
Is 3D scanning safe for fragile objects? +
Absolutely. 3D scanning is a non-contact process, which means there is no physical interaction with the object - completely safe for fragile, valuable or delicate objects. We handle each piece with care and return it to its original condition after scanning.
Can you scan objects without existing plans? +
Yes, 3D scanning is ideal when no technical drawings are available. It captures the actual geometry directly from the object, eliminating any estimation. Combined with reverse engineering, we deliver a fully editable CAD file ready to manufacture - even if you only have the physical part as a starting point.
Which industries benefit from 3D scanning? +
Industries such as engineering, automotive, automation, industrial manufacturing, medicine, architecture, robotics and product design benefit from 3D scanning. At Capib.ro we have completed scanning and reverse engineering projects for engineering companies, industrial manufacturers and academic institutions in Romania and Europe.
Can 3D scans be used for 3D printing? +
Yes, the scanned data can be transformed into 3D print-ready models, allowing objects to be replicated, modified or enhanced. At Capib.ro, once the scan is completed and the CAD file is ready, we can print the part directly using FDM, SLA, SLS or MJF - with express FDM delivery within 24h.
How much does a 3D scanning service cost? +
Cost depends on object size, complexity, accuracy required and deliverables. Scanning starts from 250 lei for parts with simple geometry. CAD design and reverse engineering are priced at 100 lei/hour. We offer customized quotations for best value for money - contact us and we'll give you a quote before you commit.
